24 By this time the boat was in the middle of the sea ^{▼▼Other mss. read many furlongs from the land} and was being battered by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 Shortly before dawn ^{▼▼Lit. In the fourth watch of the night} he came to them, walking on the sea. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified and said, “It's a ghost!” And they screamed in terror.Job 9:8

27 Immediately Jesus said to them, “Have courage! It is I. Stop being afraid!”

28 Peter answered him, “Lord, if it's you, order me to come to you on the water.”

29 Jesus ^{▼▼Lit. He} said, “Come on!” So Peter got down out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came ^{▼▼Other mss. read to go} to Jesus.

30 But when he noticed the strong ^{▼▼Other mss. lack strong} wind, he was frightened. As he began to sink, he shouted, “Lord, save me!”

31 At once Jesus reached out his hand, caught him, and said to him, “You who have so little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 As they got into the boat, the wind stopped blowing.

John 6:15-21

Darkness had already fallen, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 A strong wind was blowing, and the sea was getting rough. 19 They had rowed about three or four miles ^{▼▼Lit. twenty-five or thirty stadia} when they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat. They became terrified. 20 But he said to them, “It is I. Stop being afraid!” 21 So they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the land toward which they were going.
